River's Alive Cleanup on Hayner's Creek

  • Saturday, October 25, 2014
  • 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • 10 River's End Drive, Savannah
This event is the city's contribution to the annual statewide River's Alive waterway cleanup. Every October the City of Savannah picks a Saturday morning with a high tide to host a cleanup on this polluted tidal creek located in Southside Savannah.

If you have never participated before, consider giving it a try this time around.  It's a real eye-opener to see the huge amount of ugly trash floating in the otherwise lovely expanse of spartina and black needle rush which borders the creek.  All of this trash enters the creek via storm water runoff from area streets and parking lots -- a very visible reminder of how urban development and a careless out-of-sight, out-of-mind attitude about pollution affects the coastal marshlands.

You can bring your own canoe, kayak or small jon boat; or you can use one of the kayaks the city will be providing free of charge.  And be sure to stick around for some delicious bar-b-que.

When:  October 25, 9:00 a.m. to Noon

Where:  Boat ramp at 10 Rivers End Drive
