(Note change in location from Millstone Landing)
This year’s Swampgirl Paddle Club Fundraiser for the Friends of the Savannah Coastal Wildlife Refuge will be on Friday, October 9th. This paddle has been relocated to beautiful Ebenezer Creek, which flows into the Savannah River. This change is necessary due to the heavy rains and the Savannah River at Flood Stage by Thursday with very strong currents, which is a major safety concern. For those coming from Hilton Head, Bluffton & Sun City, we will meet me at the Shell Station at I 95 and 278 at 9 am and go to Ebenezer from there. Those folks that are coming from the Savannah area may go directly to the landing at Tommy John Landing at 9:30 am or contact me at (843)247-9191 for directions.
Ebenezer Creek is one of the most beautiful Black Water Creek, with Ancient Bald Cypress Trees over a 1000 years old and many twisty Water Tupelo Trees. This is also a very historical area from back in the early settlements in the 1730’s by the German Settlers, and a sad part of the Civil War, as many Slaves perished during Sherman’s March to Savannah. Bring a snack or lunch and plenty of water. This an easier paddle as there is little current, and with the creek levels being higher we will be able to explore more.
There will be 4 loaner kayaks available for a minimum suggested $45 donation each. A $20 donation is suggested for those using their own kayaks or canoes. A one-year Friends membership is included with your donation.
Reserve early as space is limited. Contact Linda Etchells at: (843)247-9191 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
