Here’s what the Friends and the US Fish & Wildlife Service have planned at the Savannah NWR Visitor Center to celebrate Refuge Week 2015:
The celebration kicks off Saturday, October 10th, with a free, family event at the Savannah NWR Visitor Center from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. (694 Beech Hill Lane, Hardeeville, SC). Joe Wiegand, as father of the National Wildlife Refuge System President Theodore Roosevelt, will give two different performances at 11:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. At 12:30 p.m., there will be a special presentation on the Kingfisher Pond Discovery Center Project. Guided birding, photography and open air wagon rides are scheduled at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. (reservations required) In addition, there will be refuge interpreters along the Laurel Hill Wildlife Drive to assist visitors and answer questions. Free hot dogs and drinks will be available from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. while supplies last. Please call (843) 784-2468 for details and to make reservations for the guided programs.
