F&WS Presentation - Rice Culture of the Lowcountry

Join U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Archaeologist and Regional Historic Preservation Officer, Rick Kanaski, for a special presentation about the history of rice culture in our region.


During the Colonial Period, coastal South Carolina was the largest producer of rice in North America. Rice remained a dominant commodity on the coastal rivers of South Carolina and Georgia until the end of the Civil War.
