Refuge Week Kayak Tours on the Savannah River

  • Friday, October 12, 2012
  • 9:00 AM
  • Millstone Landing
Once again this year in support of National Wildlife Refuge Week, the Swampgirls Paddle Club will lead two kayak tours of the Savannah River and donate the proceeds to the Friends group.  Both tours will be led by Friends group Board of Directors member Linda Etchells and friends.

This first tour is an easy paddle lasting about 2 1/2 hours, suitable for novice kayakers.  You can bring your own craft, loaners are available but in limited supply.  Linda suggests a minimum $15 donation if you bring you own kayak, $45 if you use one of hers.  cash or checks only please.  Here is the description:

This is a very easy and beginner-friendly float trip meeting at 9:00 AM Friday, October 12th, at Millstone Landing  in Hardeeville, SC.  From there paddlers will be shuttled up-river to the departure point at Beck’s Ferry Landing and paddle down the Savannah River, along the upper portion of the Savannah Wildlife Refuge, back to Millstone Landing. This is an historic section of the Savannah with an old abandoned cypress rice barge, the remains of the old Argent Lumber Railroad trestle and even a 100 year-old steam engine tug boat that is partially sunken along the banks of the river. Bring water and snacks to enjoy along the way. You may be lucky and see river otters, turtles, birds and other wildlife, too!

Reservations are required, and can be made by calling Linda at 843-784-2249 or by email at swampchicks@aol.com.

Please consider donating to the Friends!
