Natural Resource Discovery Day

     Have you ever wondered what a biologist, a wildland firefighter, a refuge ranger or a refuge manager does on a national wildlife refuge?  Well, this is your chance to learn!  The US Fish & Wildlife Service, the Friends, the Savannah Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF), Georgia Southern UniversityUniversity of Georgia -Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources and UGA Marine Science Center are hosting a full day of fun and educational activities for all ages on Saturday, March 8th, 2014 at the Savannah NWR Visitor Center during the Second Annual Natural Resources Discovery Day.

    See how birds are banded (even band one yourself!); learn about wildland fire with hands-on activities involving real fire equipment; try your luck at target shooting with a gun or bow, while learning about the refuge hunt program; gain a better understanding of the Fish and Wildlife Service‚Äôs role in protecting endangered species; learn why water management matters to wildlife on Savannah NWR, and much more.
     
The day is free and open to the public, so pack up the family and head on over to the Visitor Center, located at 694 Beech Hill Lane in Hardeeville, SC.

     In addition to Discovery Day activities, the Refuge will be conducting a photography workshop for children ages 16 and under.  The workshop is intended to help young photographers learn more about photography using the natural environment of the refuge.  The class will be held from 8:30-10am so participates will still be able to enjoy the Discovery Day activities. The class is free; however, reservations are required due to limited seating.
