The Friends group is mourning the departures of two of my favorite people, Zac Gohsman
and Christine Fox
. Zac has left us to attend medical school, and Christine will be leaving soon to accept a new job in Athens. You may have seen their smiling faces if you spend any time around Savannah NWR.
Zac joined FWS as a STEP (Student Temporary Employment Program) intern for visitor services at Savannah Coastal Refuges Complex in 2010.
He put in many hours staffing the information desk and the store at Savannah NWR Visitor Center, as well as helping the biology staff with invasive species control and other projects. He was also a good sport about appearing in costume as "TR Bear" and the "Blue Goose" Who can we talk into donning those outfits now?
We are hoping he will be able to find some time away from his studies to put in an occasional appearance at the VC.
Christine Fox came aboard in May of 2011 as a Student Conservation Association intern with visitor services at the Complex headquarters. She has been an enormous help with the Environmental education programs within the complex and also provided lots of help with the information desk and the bookstore at the Savannah NWR VC.
This spring she received her master's degree in Environmental Education from UGA. Even though she is leaving us, we would love to see her back in uniform with FWS Visitor Services in the near future. Athens isn't that far away, Christine, don't be a stranger!
