This weekend's Refuge Week activities were simply fabulous! Great weather, great planning, great attendance, great activities - we could not have asked for a better event.
So many people worked so hard to make Refuge Week activities such a success, I will try to thank them all:
First - thanks to all the Friends group members and the members of the public who participated at Wassaw Island NWR on Saturday and on the Savannah River Cruise on Sunday. Without you, there would be nothing to write about. Special thanks to the new members who joined, and to Noah and Mary Rosenstein whose $120 bid won the Teddy Bear auction.
Next - Thanks to all the FWS staff who gave up their weekend (and many days leading up the the celebration) preparing and ensuring that everything went off without a hitch. Thanks to their boss, Jane Griess who staffed the VC on Saturday so all her staff could join us on Wassaw. Thanks also to Monica Harris with Visitor Services for all her planning, Amy Ochoa, Russ Webb, Peter Range (my new favorite Blue Goose), Mia Corona, Rachel Thomas, and Christine Fox (great to see you back in Savannah).
Thanks to all the volunteers who helped ensure that things ran smoothly. Twila Gray, Connie Terrell, Arnie and Ellie Weisbrot, Dave Chafin, John Crawford, Ann Lindsay, Sharon Lindsay, Wayne Harris, Kris Williams, and all the boat operators and staff from the UGA Marine Extension Service. Please forgive me if I left anyone out.
Finally, thanks to Joe Weigand (TR) for once again regaling us with his reincarnation of our 26th president, Theodore Roosevelt, known to us all as the father of the National Wildlife Refuge System.
Please post your comments on this site under Friends Blog and send me your best photos to share with our readers.
It's been an exciting and tiring weekend, more news and pics to follow, I'm going to bed.
